Simple and primitive beauty - that's what i love about ceramics
It all started with insurmountable desire to leave the city and move to countryside. Me and my husband started to live within this idea, making plans for the future. So it happened that around that time i fell in love with ceramics. Started in autumn of 2016 with my first introduction to clay, building a traditional Latvian wood-kiln in the end of the summer, now four years later I have decided to share my work with the others and hopefully take one step further to fulfill my dream.
For 5 years i worked as a tea-master, learning about Chenese, Japanese, Korean and South American culture, philosophy and tea ceremony. It inspires my work a lot, because now i can make teaware based on my previous work experiance. And not only teaware... I like to be around visually appealing things, to eat and drink from beautiful tableware, to surround myself with small but meaningful details.
I get inspiration mainly from nature and i try to work with local materials, well except glazes. The clay is local, most of pigments are local, beeswax is collected from our own honey bees, firewood with which we burn the kiln is collected from our forest as well as stones and wooden details...
I work with hand-building technique, so it is impossible to make two peaces that are exactly the same. That's the most exciting part for me. Every teacup, every teapot I make is different, and thanks to wood firing, every outcome is such a surprise, It's like Christmas every time you open the kiln.
Next year I will graduate from Art Academy of Latvia Ceramics department getting master’s degree in fine arts. I'm still in the learning process looking forward to develop my skills, technique and taste. Hopefully you will appreciate it.
