Creo arte que evoca nostalgia, hace que la gente se sienta como niños otra vez y añade un toque de color al mundo.
I create art that evokes nostalgia, makes people feel like kids again, and adds a splash of color to the world.
De niño, llevaba conmigo a todas partes un cuaderno de dibujo, además de mis lápices, rotuladores, pinturas, etc. ¿Y qué era lo que más me gustaba dibujar? Dibujos animados, por supuesto. Me encantaban tanto que soñaba con ser dibujante de Disney, Warner Bros. o Hannah Barbara: Bugs Bunny, el Pato Donald, Los Picapiedra, Popeye… todos me daban muchísima alegría.
Ah, los sueños, ¿verdad?
Y luego, cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, nuestro profesor de arte nos enseñó sobre el Pop Art, con todas sus formas y colores vibrantes, y se me ocurrió la idea de fusionar el Pop Art con mis dibujos animados favoritos para que estuvieran salpicados de color.
¿Pero entonces?
Una persona importante en mi vida (¡que también era artista!) me dijo que mi arte no era lo suficientemente bueno como para dedicarme a ello profesionalmente: "Tienes que ser realista con tus sueños y recordar que necesitas crecer y ganarte la vida, ganar dinero, contribuir a la sociedad".
Suspiro.
Así que guardé mi cuaderno de bocetos. Sé que puede sonar exagerado, pero es cierto. Lo guardé todo y durante los siguientes 30 años y pico no volví a sentarme con un cuaderno de bocetos.
Sin embargo, en diciembre de 2023 comencé a trabajar en mi interior y a reconectar con mi "niño interior", la parte más joven de mí misma que (por diversas razones) había exiliado en un intento por ser más madura, más aceptada, más apreciada... más de lo que creía que debía ser, de lo que creía que todos esperaban que fuera.
Para mí, parte de esa reconexión implicó sacar mi cuaderno de bocetos, así que para Navidad de ese año mi esposa, mi hija y mi madre me compraron todo tipo de materiales de arte y comencé a pintar y pintar y pintar.
¡Dibujos animados!
¡Color!
¡Más color!
Y después de un tiempo comencé a compartir algunas de mis creaciones en línea y (¡para mi sorpresa!) alguien se puso en contacto conmigo y me preguntó si podía comprar una... ¡y eso dio lugar a más compras e incluso a encargos personalizados!

When I was a kid I carried a sketchpad everywhere I went along with my pencils, markers, paints, etc. And my favorite thing to draw? Cartoons, of course. I loved it so much, in fact, that I dreamed of being a cartoonist who worked for Disney or Warner Bros. or Hannah Barbara - Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, The Flinstones, Popeye … they all brought me so much joy.
Ah, dreams - right?
And then when I was in Junior High our art teacher taught us about Pop Art with all the vibrant shapes and colors and I had this idea to merge Pop Art with my favorite cartoons so that they were splashed with color.
But then?
An important person in my life (who was also an artist!) told me that my art wasn’t good enough to pursue professionally - “you have to be realistic about your dreams and remember you need to grow up and make a living, make money, contribute to society.”
Sigh.
And so I put my sketchpad away. I know that might sound dramatic, but it’s true. I put everything away and for the next 30+ years I never sat down with a sketchpad again.
Back in Decmeber 2023, however, I began doing some inner work and began to reconnect with my “inner child”, the younger part of myself that (for various reasons) I sent into exile in an effort to be more mature, more accepted, more appreciated … more of what I thought I was supposed to be, what I thought everyone expected me to be.
For me, part of that reconnection involved getting out my sketchpad and so for Christmas that year my wife, daughter, and mom bought me all sorts of art supplies and I began painting and painting and painting.
Cartoons!
Color!
More color!
And then after a while I started sharing some of my creations online and (to my surprise!) someone reached out and asked to purchase one … and that led to some more purchases and even commission requests!
