Unique and Expressive Jewellery Handcrafted in Britain with Upcycled Elements and Curated Vintage Pieces
Each hand-crafted Bafbergh design is a unique piece of jewellery that helps you to express your individuality. My crafting process of curating different materials and constant creativity ensures that many pieces are one-of-a-kind or limited edition.
Many designs contain at least one element that is salvaged and upcycled to aid the circular economy. This could be a bead from a vintage necklace that I dismantled or a fragment of sea glass that I found washed up on the beach. Manmade items that are altered by the forces of nature offer an unusual beauty.
I enjoy collecting and feeling the weight of history. Nothing is lost, it just changes. In this way, Bafbergh represents renewal and the circle of life. The Ghanian word Sankofa helps describe my use of upcycled elements. "It is not wrong to go back for what is left behind, to gain wisdom and hope from the past".
Taking inspiration from everywhere, in particular nature, art and architecture, I also keep an eye on current trends. I like to combine different materials and let my vivid imagination run free. Expect the unexpected in the designs, bringing you truly distinctive jewellery.
Why the name Bafbergh?
It is a coined word from the first letters of the surnames of my eight great-grandparents, all born in Britain in the 1870's and 1880's. Bafbergh could be the name of an olde worlde English village, perhaps named by Scandinavian settlers. Bergh means hill or mountain which is one of my favourite places to be. In times gone by, bergh meant to protect. I like to think that my jewellery offers protection, like a talisman, even if simply from a new confidence gained whilst wearing.
