A rainy day, a new passion...
After attending a marbling workshop, we were instantly hooked. What followed were countless days and nights spent honing our marbling and bookbinding skills - a time when we practically barricaded ourselves indoors while outside the drizzle fell and the sky stayed grey. In the background played the song “drizzlecore”, and as we thoughtlessly dropped paint onto the marbling bath, it almost felt like we had created our own little genre. That’s how drizzlecore was born.
Some time later, we’re thrilled to now share our handmade notebooks with everyone who might fall in love with them just as we did.
Paper marbling is an old art that traveled from Asia through Turkey into Europe centuries ago, where it became particularly popular in bookbinding - used to adorn endpapers and book edges. Sadly, with industrialization and cheap printing methods, this intricate craft gradually faded into obscurity by the 19th century.
We think that’s a real shame - which is why we’re happy to breathe new life into marbling through our work.
