Alex Wrekk begon in 2006 met de verkoop van haar zines, catalogusknoppen en aangepaste knoppen op Etsy onder de naam Brainscan en veranderde de Etsy-winkelnaam in hetzelfde als haar fysieke winkel: Portland Button Works in 2012.
Alex Wrekk en Derek Neuland* hebben in april 2012 hun krachten gebundeld om Portland Button Works en zine distro te creëren! Met een collectieve 15 jaar ervaring in het maken van knoppen, vonden ze dat hun aangepaste vaardigheden voor het maken van knoppen nog geweldiger zouden zijn als ze samenwerkten. Portland Button Works is een online winkel en een fysieke winkel in Portland, Oregon.
Portland Button Works is gespecialiseerd in het maken van aangepaste knoppen, magneten en andere items voor uw project, school, band, non-profit, gedenkteken, kroegentocht of om welke reden dan ook dat u kleine foto's nodig heeft om op uw kleding te spelden! Wij kunnen uw knoppen voor u maken of u kunt de winkel binnenkomen en u kunt u laten zien hoe u ze zelf kunt indrukken! Wij hebben knoppen verkrijgbaar in 4 maten.
PBW biedt ook een grote selectie van onze eigen knopontwerpen, evenals een groeiende zine-, strip- en boekdistro die zorgvuldig is samengesteld door het Portland Button Works Zine Distro Collective.
Paul Burke vervoegde het Portland Button Works-team fulltime in 2014.

Alex Wrekk
Alex' leven draait om het maken van dingen; voornamelijk zines, knoppen, veganistisch eten, reisplannen en ruimte voor een kat in haar bed.
Alex verhuisde in 1999 van Salt Lake City, Utah naar Portland, Oregon en werkte van 1999 tot 2006 voor Microcosm Publishing. Daarna startte en runde ze Small World Buttons tot 2012. In 2012 opende Alex Portland Button Works en zine distro, een online en fysieke winkel in Noord-Portland, blokken verwijderd van haar huis van 12 jaar. Alex onderhoudt de Portland Button Work website en fysieke winkel. Ze vindt het heerlijk om spullen in enveloppen te stoppen voor de postbode om naar je toe te brengen!
Alex Wrekk creëert sinds 1997 de zine Brainscan met verhalen variërend van reizen, reproductieve gezondheid, liefde, herstel van emotioneel misbruik, zine-cultuur en zelfs fictie, allemaal verpakt in tekst- en fotokopieerkunst. Ze schreef ook het boek Stolen Sharpie Revolution: A DIY guide for zines and zine culture dat nu zijn 5e druk ingaat.
Wanneer Alex geen zine-dingen doet, doet ze andere zine-dingen, zoals het organiseren van het Portland Zine Symposium, het instellen van juli als International Zine Month, medelijden hebben met Zine Event Organizers over de hele wereld, het bijwerken van de zine-evenementenlijsten op de StolenSharpieRevolution.org-website, het hosten van de podcast Nobody Cares About Your Stupid Zine Podcast, friemelen met haar Risograph-printer, voorlezen uit haar zines hardop op zine tours of zingen in een zine thema terug genaamd The Copy Scams.
Alex geniet ook van lekker ambachtelijk bier, het verzamelen van dobbelstenen en het spelen van Dungeons & Dragons en Pathfinder, rondhangen met haar partner Paul, reizen, praten met vogels en eekhoorns op weg naar het werk en is een semi-recente bekeerling tot de kerk van katten dankzij Jackie en OJ.
Alex Wrekk started selling her zines, catalog buttons and custom buttons on Etsy in 2006 under the name Brainscan and changed the Etsy shop name to the same as her brick and mortar shop: Portland Button Works in 2012.
Alex Wrekk and Derek Neuland* joined forces to create Portland Button Works and zine distro in April of 2012! With a collective 15 years of button making experience, they felt their custom button making skills would be even more awesome if they worked together. Portland Button Works is an online store, and a brick and mortar storefront in Portland, Oregon.
Portland Button Works specializes in making custom buttons, magnets and other items for your project, school, band, non-profit, memorial, pub crawl or whatever reason you may need tiny pictures to pin to your clothes! We can make your buttons for you or you could come into the shop and we could show you how to press them yourself! We have buttons available in 4 sizes.
PBW also offer a large selection of our own button designs, as well as a growing zine, comic, and book distro that is carefully curated by the Portland Button Works Zine Distro Collective.

Alex Wrekk
Alex's life revolves around making things; primarily zines, buttons, vegan food, travel plans, and space for a cat in her bed.
Alex moved to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah in 1999 and worked for Microcosm Publishing from 1999 to 2006. Then she started and ran Small World Buttons until 2012. In 2012 Alex opened Portland Button Works and zine distro, an online and brick and mortar shop in North Portland, blocks away from her home of 12 years. Alex maintains the Portland Button Work website and physical shop. She relishes putting stuff in envelopes for the postal carrier to bring to you!
Alex Wrekk has been creating the zine Brainscan since 1997 with stories ranging from travel, reproductive health, love, emotional abuse recovery, zine culture, and even fiction all wrapped up in text and photocopier art. She also wrote the book Stolen Sharpie Revolution: A DIY guide for zines and zine culture that is now entering its 5th printing.
When Alex isn't doing zine things she is doing other zine things like organizing the Portland Zine Symposium, establishing July as International Zine Month, commiserating with Zine Event Organizers around the world, updating the zine event listings on the StolenSharpieRevolution.org website, hosting the podcast Nobody Cares About Your Stupid Zine Podcast, fidgeting with her Risograph printer, reading from her zines out loud on zine tours or singing in a zine themed back called The Copy Scams.
Alex also enjoys fine craft beer, collecting dice and playing Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, hanging out with her partner Paul, traveling, talking to birds and squirrels on the way to work and is a semi-recent convert to the church of cats thanks to Jackie and OJ.
