The passing of Halley's Comet in 1835 captured the public imagination and jewellery and other souvenirs were produced to commemorate the event - only the finest remain to this day.

This fabulously fine, tiny, genuine Georgian brooch is set with stunningly water-clear glass pastes.

At the time this ring was made, clear glass paste stones were the state of the art - as clear and bright as diamonds with their own strong lustre, and were cut by the same gemcutters as would work on diamonds. They commanded a similar price and were highly sought after at this grade - these stunning old mine-cut stones have deep, characterful facets and are utterly bewitching.

With typically simple Georgian design, the stones are castellated with fine millegrain surrounds, and its lyre-shaped body is superbly waisted - giving detail, interest and an impression of movement.

In solid 15 carat gold with silver-topped rock crystal settings, it's in very good condition, with a few tiny nicks to the stones' facets and a replaced c-clip. It measures just 22 x 12 mm and weighs 1.4 grams.
