Loop the Loop,,,vom Eiskunstlauf bis zur Stricknadel
Skating-Trainer bei Tag... Stricker bei Nacht... dann sagte die Mutter eines Studenten, ich solle verkaufen, was ich stricke... Und so fing es an.
Ich entwarf und strickte Geldbörsen, Blumennadeln, Ponchos, Achselzucken und Schals. Ich verkaufte sie auf Kunstausstellungen, in lokalen Boutiquen und natürlich an meine Studenten.
Stricken ist arbeitsintensiv und zeitaufwendig. Meine Ideen für neue Designs kamen schneller, als ich sie produzieren konnte, also beschloss ich, meine Strickmuster in Nähmuster umzuwandeln.
Jetzt wandere ich am liebsten durch Stoffläden und nehme alles auf, was mir ins Auge fällt. Stoffladenangestellte fragen: "Was machst du?" Meine Antwort ist immer "Ich weiß es nicht". Wenn ich nach Hause in mein Arbeitszimmer komme, spricht der Stoff zu mir, und dann weiß ich es.
Was als Schal beginnt, verwandelt sich manchmal in einen Kopftuch und dann in eine Mütze... Gelegentlich sogar eine Hobo-Tasche. Man weiß ja nie... Man muss nur auf den Stoff hören.

Skating coach by day...knitter by night...then one day a student's mom said I should sell what I was knitting...and so it began.
I designed and knitted purses, flower pins, ponchos, shrugs and scarves. I sold them at art shows, in local boutiques and of course, to my students.
Knitting is labor intensive and time consuming. My ideas for new designs were coming faster than I could produce them, so I decided to turn my knitting patterns into sewing patterns.
Now my favorite pastime is wandering through fabric stores picking up whatever catches my eye. Fabric store clerks ask, " What are you making?" My answer is always "I don't know". When I get home to my workroom the fabric speaks to me, and then I know.
What begins as a scarf sometimes turns into a head wrap and then into a beanie...on occasion even a hobo bag. One never knows...you just have to listen to the fabric.
