It had been twenty-some years since I picked up a pencil with the intention of creating art on a regular basis. This new journey began again as an outlet for stress relief from my corporate 9-5, but has become so much more.
When I started my journey, I was a horse obsessed kid and that's all I wanted to write about and draw. My teachers got tired of hearing about it (riding lessons were the highlight of my week) and I was told I had to find something else to write about in my grade school journal assignments.
I stopped writing about horses but kept drawing them. My art teachers didn't mind so much, until I got to college and decided to take an elective art class. The professor wanted me to embrace a style that wasn't mine, to assign nonsensical meaning to my art, and I was embarrassed in front of my peers on a regular basis. I put down my pencils and brushes and moved on with life, it wasn't fun and I didn't find joy in being a creator any longer.
My question to the World is - why discourage someone who is passionate about something, rather than guide them towards the best version of themselves that they can be? I'll never understand that, so my hope is YOU understand that YOUR support means the world to me. <3 Please know that if you're experiencing the same, I'm here to be your biggest cheerleader. The world has enough cynics and critics, after all.
For anyone who took the time to read my story, thank you. <3
