ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been creating art in some form or other all of my life. My acrylic creations have culminated into what some may call a “style.”I do enjoy whimsical, slightly offbeat subjects, and in my more realistic pieces, I always want to leave a few items to ponder. Sometimes, I hide a little creature, gecko, crab, etc. in my paintings for an element of surprise!

Maine artist Linda Kegley is a native of Kentucky where she spent most of her years active in the arts community as a painter, calligrapher and owner of LK Artworks, an advertising and graphic design business. The Kegleys have been lifelong sailors -with a love of the sea, beach and ocean's treasures!

The "Don't Drink Like a Fish™" Series (anthropomorphic, Funky Fish in cocktails and other beverages , has well over 300 paintings so far, and the “fish” are now swimming all over the world. The "Fish" have been evolving since 2003, and also feature the GirlFINS™ and BestFINS™.
Some of her favorite series have been Abstracts, Coral Reefs, Interiors, Hidden Geckoes, Botanicals and Sunsets. Her latest paintings are layered acrylics, and mixed media with intricate pattern upon pattern. An award-winning artist, she has created commissioned pieces for scores of clients, some as far away as Japan.

“I love the free feeling of creating art, and will always lean toward the whimsical, funky style and subject matter that make people feel happy and smile. My goal is that you connect with the freedom, riots of color, and energy of my work. If I can transport the viewer to a happy world for a few minutes, then I have achieved my goals. I like to think of my paintings as a run through the water sprinkler on a hot summer's day. I believe that the desire to surround oneself with happy art is universal.”
