I grew up in a country side of Japan, surrounded by terraced rice fields, forest and mountains catching frogs and snakes. When I was 16, I decided to go to an international school in South India, and I realized that I wanted to become a farmer of a sort, while working on my art at the same time.
Between studying art and studying agriculture, I picked the latter. After graduating I had my son, and when my son became a year I started to think about going back into crafts and making a business out of it.
My crafts are inspired from the scenery of my hometown in Japan where I eventually want to return and farm, designs used in India where I attended high school and the nature of British Columbia where I live now. My son is also one of the biggest inspiration for things I make. Many of the mobiles were initially made for him.
I use high quality materials and recycled materials. My cards are made with high quality, acid-free papers and Japanese yuzen washi papers. A card and an envelope set is in a compostable plastic bag. My mobiles are made with upcycled fabric and felt made from post-consumer plastic bottles, stuffed with recycled polyester and mung beans. I pick up most of my materials are collected from our visits to parks or walks in our neighborhoods.
I can also make customized cards according to your needs and preferences. Contact me through Etsy, and let me know of your plans!
