My name is Susan and I am a happily married mother of two amazing girls who have grown into wonderful woman. My first career was as an educator, but now I am retired and reside is in the beautiful region of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Since retiring, I have had the great fortune to be able to engage in a number of personal passions- and topping the- is creating art. As a child I dreamed of being an artist, but was dissuaded, because you know the story—you can’t make a living as an artist! But now, because of a very supportive husband, who has a job in the real world, I play all day with my artwork.
I see the possibility of creating art from everything. As a self taught mixed media artist, I have the freedom to play by my own rules- which of course I do. My work can be described as eclectic - and I really do like to mix it up– so I shift around- from work on canvas, to artisan style jewelry, to altered art, and assemblages. Experimenting with techniques and materials is a favorite past time of mine. Of all the areas I work in, jewelry making is my where I spend most of my time.
I love creating extraordinary pieces of jewelry, I love wearing the pieces I make, I love giving them away as gifts, and now I am excited to be offering them to you through my shop Earthy By Design.
Born under the sun sign of Taurus, I tend to be earthy in style, which is reflected in the design and color palette choices I use in my jewelry collections. Most of my pieces are created from copper and polymer clay, with a distinctively natural and organic tone. I work from my home studio, which is my most favorite place in the world to spend time. Here my imagination runs wildly in all directions, I am like a child in a candy shop not knowing what to sample next.
