Growing up in California in the 60’s and 70’s, Thomas Webb found no end to visual delight, imagination, and inspiration.
Thomas has always enjoyed pop culture, TV, movies, advertising, classic children’s books and toys. He is still inspired by these as subject matter. Thomas Webb lives in Portland, Oregon where he works from his home studio. He prefers water based mediums and works primarily with gouache and acrylic paint, often employing a technique he calls gouache and ink resist, which he has been exploring and pushing the boundaries of since 1990.
It is my goal to reach back into the viewers memory through familiar branding from childhood, things which brought joy and pleasure in ones past. It is my hope that the same joy can now be experienced in the present moment through the emotions of innocence, love, kindness and reverence, which I’ve tried to put into the work, a hint at the ephemeral delight of the childhood experience of play.
Even if the viewer is unfamiliar with the brand or subject I hope to reach them through the senses with aesthetic and ethereal qualities I have imbued in my work.
