I grew up in a crafty family. My mother always had us at the kitchen table working on something. Whether it was magnets for the fridge or making beanbag games. As I grew up she taught me more intricate things like embroidery and sewing. I always wanted to learn any hobby my Mom had on the go. My siblings and I learned to make gifts from a very young age and I think to this day that is why I enjoy being given a gift that someone has put their time and creativity into.
I learned to knit when I wanted to earn my knitting badge for Girl Guides. My mother taught me how and I think I knitted a scarf. I might have knit a few more things after that as gifts, but it all started back up again in my first year at University. I met a friend who was knitting a pair of socks and I’ve always wanted to learn to knit with double pointed needles. Well, she showed me and I haven’t looked back. And somehow between knitting projects I managed to earn my degree in Interior Design.
I started off making gifts for my nephew and niece. Then I got married to my wonderful husband, and we started our own family of two. So I knit pieces for my own children and people started asking where I got them and I said, “I made it myself.” A couple of people suggested I sell them and that’s how Itsy Bitsy got started!
So, I’ve started my own business and I’m a stay at home mom (which is a job in and of itself!) I’ve dabbled in all sorts of crafts, but knitting, sewing, beads and ribbon are some of my favorite things. I think that is really reflected in my collection and I thank you for taking the time to browse through my shop!
