m. doris is the hand-crafted, one of a kind jewelry creation of Interior Designer Mary Gallagher. Mary's love of all things beautiful began at a very young age. As a child, she inherited a collection of adornments in a hand-painted, gilded jewelry chest from her late grandmother, the company's namesake.

Inspired by this gift- and ever since she had the dexterity to string beads together- Mary would make jewelry for friends, often occupying herself in the backseat of her parent's station wagon on long family car trips.

In her independent travels around the world, she seeks out jewelry, beads and findings, pairing these with re-purposed objects looking for new life. She has a particular interest in the properties of healing stones and natural objects, often using wood and semi-precious stones in her pieces. Hematite is her current favorite. She looks to nature's cycles for design inspiration, incorporating opposites: old and new, natural and fabricated, shiny and matte, found and made.

With parts from the global markets of India, Thailand, Puerto Rico, South America and Western Europe to the local thrift stores and yard sales (and of course some great bead shops!) of both coasts of the United States, every piece is lovingly designed and made by hand.
