I am a life long cyclist and woodworker who has always taken the bike when possible, and tried to only build things that would last longer than it took the tree, that they were made out of, to grow.
Years ago I bought a sewing machine at a garage sale, and I was hooked. I loved being able to build things out of a flexible material that didn't make a mess when you cut it. One thing led to another, and now I use an industrial sewing machine and I build bicycle panniers and whatever else I can think of to make cycling more realistic for people.
I still work with wood, but I try to recycle and up-cycle as much of it as I can. On days when I sew it feels like I'm walking out into the light.
