More About My Crafting History...

I think the above quote includes all artistic endeavours...I've been creating art for as long as I can remember...It actually feeds my soul. I love using my hands and my imagination to create something visually appealing that will help someone else express their personality and individuality. Most of the memories from my creative life have blurred over the years but for some reason my beginnings in serious crafting stuck. One of my earliest crafting memories was of collecting flowers from my Grandmother's garden (in Hawaii) every Sunday after church. I would fashion, from the fragrant and exotic blooms, a fabulous table centerpiece for the dinner table. Even though my Grandma would often critique that my bouquets were "a bit too large in scale!", I always received numerous compliments from the rest of the family. Then there were those long Summer vacations my sister and I spent in Modesto, California... Since the weather outside often peaked in the 100 degree zone, we had to entertain ourselves inside for most of the day. We weren't allowed to watch television, so my aunty insisted we learn home making skills (she was a part-time maid) - so we learned how to iron, dust furniture, and clean windows. As reward for a job well done, my aunty Bina gave me my first latch hook rug kit. I completed it by the time I had to go back home to Hawaii - I LOVED IT - it was of a unicorn!!! Aunty Bina was also a prolific kitchen chef, and she also encouraged my sister and me to bake cookies and can jams and jellies with her! My parents kind of tolerated my creative side as long as it didn't interefere with my school studies. I was the kind of kid that asked for origami paper and colourful assortments of felt for my birthdays instead of the latest toys. From there, as a teenager, I taught myself to decorate interiors by immersing myself in instruction books & design magazines. Every time I was in a store which had them I went crazy! I'd have dreams of rearranging rooms in my parent's home and I'd wake up in the middle of the night trying to replicate the visions in my dreams. Anyway, I've come a long way since then but after I slaved away in retail for so may years, I didn't have much time to do anything creative. A few years back, after a major car accident, I decided to get back to what was important and meaningful in my life. Although I don't make many latch hook rugs anymore, I've come back to sporatic creating, mostly with my wedding floral design company. I've also recently rediscovered my sewing machine - I've always sucked at sewing to the dismay of my aunts who are all excellent seamstresses. So stay tuned as I take a stab at the needle and thread again and showcase some of my future textile creations right here on Etsy!!! I'm very fortunate to have become a member of this amazing and ingenious community. I look forward to many days full of Imagination & Creativity!

DUTIES & TAXES - these are not included in the purchase price and are buyer's responsibility. ALL packages will be marked "commercial sample" on the customs form. We will not commit an US federal offense by marking "gift" instead, so please don't ask.

► We offer $1.00 off Shipping and Handling for each additional item when multiple items are paid for on one single combined notice. Please do not ask for a different discount than is offered.
