Hello! I'm Sam, the face and hands behind Down2Earth Dolls http://www.Down2EarthDolls.etsy.com and Tiny Perfect World http://www.TinyPerfectWorld.etsy.com . I'm an artist and stay-at-home-mum on Australia's sunny Gold Coast. Before my children came along, I was a scientist (complete with labcoat and glasses!) though I've always had a strong creative streak. I will try my hand at any kind of art and crafts, but I especially especially love pencil art and sculpture.
I was inspired to try repainting unloved secondhand dolls when I saw a news segment about other doll artists creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind makeunder dolls. I was instantly hooked on the transformation process- here was a way to combine many different skills (painting, drawing, sewing and sculpting) and create eco-friendly artworks! Instead of contributing to landfill, my dolls promote natural beauty and age-appropriate pretend play.
I aim to create realistic, naturally beautiful art dolls that aren't too precious for play. My favourite part of doll-making is drawing their faces and seeing their new personalities shine through. I recently started renovating secondhand dollhouses for my dolls. I could only find chunky pink play furniture or modern but fragile collectors pieces to furnish them with. Frustrated with the lack of choice, I decided to design and make a range of simple, modern furniture ideal for imaginative play. I opened a second shop, TinyPerfectWorld, devoted to modern doll furniture and décor. Here you can find handcrafted beds to suit 1:6 scale dolls (such as Barbie, Monster High, Blythe and my own Down2Earth Dolls), gorgeous bedding, mini cushions and fun décor items. New 1:12 scale Dollhouse furniture and DIY kits are coming soon to Tiny Perfect World!
