The Imbucare coin box is a material from Montessori pedagogy with which children learn to understand the principle of object permanence.
Object permanence means that you cognitively know that an object is still there even though you can no longer see it.
At the beginning of their cognitive development, babies do not yet have this knowledge and cry when the caregiver leaves the room or their toys disappear under a cloth or fall down. They always live in the moment and so, in their understanding, something out of sight has disappeared forever. With the help of the Imbucare coin box, the understanding of object permanence can be trained.
Application:
the coins are inserted through the slot. Now they are “gone”. Now you open the drawer and lo and behold: the coins are back! The child learns: the coins did not disappear, but were collected in the drawer.
The same exercise can be offered with a wooden ball (not included) and the hole opening of the Imbucare box, or with a fabric ball (not included) that is slightly larger than the hole so that the child has to “stuff” it through the opening. Modified game :
Other applications:
Without a drawer, the coin box is also suitable as a garage for toy cars, as a room for a dollhouse, as a storage box, as a pen holder (drawer only) and as a money box for money.
Tip:
To play, place the coins in a bowl and place the wooden box next to them.
Offering the toy in this way has a highly encouraging character and encourages the child to start playing. This means that the toy is played with more often. In general, a smaller number of accessible toys at the same time means that the child spends longer and more intensively with a material. Have fun trying! :)
