History of Koransha
About 330 years ago, in 1689, Eizaemon Fukagawa I started manufacturing ceramics in Hizen Arita, the predecessor of Koransha.
Eizaemon Fukagawa VIII brought together the best potters, painters, and potters' merchants of the time during the turbulent period between the end of the Edo period and the Meiji period, and established the joint-venture company, Koransha, in 1875 (Meiji 8).
He also devoted himself to the export of Arita-yaki porcelain overseas and exhibited it at numerous world expositions held in various countries around the world. The company continued to receive numerous honors and accolades, including a Medal of Honor at the Philadelphia World's Fair and a Gold Medal at the Paris World's Fair, and its reputation continued to grow overseas.
