Designed in NYC made in NYC and shipped from NYC.
The locket is 1 1/4 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide. 2 1/2 cm long and 2 cm wide.
It comes on a matching 2mm chain with lobster clap.
The photo size is 20mmx14mm. People have been posting pics of the ones they have done and they look nice. You print your pictures of photo paper and trim. More crafty people get some clear resin from the craft supply store and waterproof them.
I cast the metal heart and hard solder it to the locket. The locket is then thickly plated in antique silver.
If you like you can open the jump ring and put the locket on another chain with other pieces. The locket does have an undercut ridge on the inside so you can slide little pictures or a keepsake inside.
The sacred heart of Mary is cast in one solid piece of lead free pewter and silver plated here in NYC.
Historically, the devotion to the Sacred Heart is an outgrowth of devotion to what is believed to be Christ's sacred humanity.[7] During the first ten centuries of Christianity, there is nothing to indicate that any worship was rendered to the wounded Heart of Jesus.[8] The revival of religious life and the zealous activity of Bernard of Clairvaux and Francis of Assisi in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, together with the enthusiasm of the Crusaders returning from the Holy Land, gave a rise to devotion to the Passion of Jesus Christ and particularly to practices in honour of the Sacred Wounds.
Sacred wounds. That may be why it's become such a popular tattoo design no ?
Being raised in the Catholic church ( altar boy choir boy and a brief foray into a seminary interview ) as the song goes : Jesus was just alright with me but I was all about Mary.
When other kids were hanging Farah Fawcett posters I was building an altar to Mary in in my room. Burgundy velvet tiered levels and flower vases. A very tasteful ivory white finely detailed statue my grandmother had gifted me at the center.
My very Catholic father gave it a side eye. He loved me but it was cause for some disquiet for him. It was very gay.
When the nuns assigned days in May to bring a fresh flower crown I couldn't wait. I went to a florist and got green arrangement tape and a mini ice cooler to walk my cherry blossom masterpiece to school.
Woe betide the student who forgot their Mary crown day. The nuns would look a child down coldly and unceremoniously place a flower crown on her head. A plastic one. Oh the shame.
This is a nice piece for everyday. It has some weight to it. The silver plated chain is sturdy.
