How we got started...
During 2020, my husband took up gardening, like many people did, and wanted to make his own compost. He drilled some holes in a bucket and let it sit. A couple months went by and he decided to check on it, when he opened the bucket, out came a swarm of bees! I remember hearing him yell that there were bees in the bucket, so I ran outside with excitement. "Babe! We have free bees!" From there we transferred the bees into a hive, and they stayed all of 4 days before they left. I was so sad when they left but decided I would just catch another swarm of bees. In San Diego? Do we even have swarms of bees like that in the suburbs? I decided to bait the hive during swarm season, and within 3 days we witnessed our bees moving into their new home.
That is when my love for bees started and I began playing with beeswax. I wanted something to do when I was at home and figured making beeswax candles would keep me occupied. I was right! I had no idea I was about to start a business making candles.
I wanted to make candles for my family where I knew all the ingredients and knew the fragrances that I chose wouldn't exacerbate my husband's and daughter's allergies. I found a company that shared the same desire to be transparent with their ingredients as I did. Their desire to create quality, sustainable, eco-friendly products for their following had me on board from my first order.
My only problem was finding the perfect candle vessels for my product that wasn't continually going out of stock. With the supply chain issues, I decided to experiment with making my own candle vessels, and let me tell you, that opened up a whole different level of getting my creative juices flowing! I am hoping to add more cement decor to my shop in the coming months!
