Sono Matty, fondatore, proprietario e designer di DIM Design Shop! Ho aperto il mio negozio nel lontano 2014 nella soffitta di casa mia in Pennsylvania.
Ho trascorso 6 anni al college, conseguendo la laurea in architettura e il master in gestione delle costruzioni. Laurearsi dopo la recessione del 2008 è stato difficile nel mercato del lavoro. Alla fine ho trovato un lavoro che non mi piaceva molto, esausto per i tanti viaggi in macchina e lo stress. Mentre ero al college, lavoravo in un birrificio... principalmente per fare benzina alla macchina. Ho imparato molto sulla birra e questo ha stimolato un nuovo amore ritrovato. Stanco e infelice per il mio primo lavoro da ragazzo dopo la scuola, ho deciso di rinunciarvi per perseguire un lavoro appassionato nel settore della produzione della birra.
L'idea del mio negozio è nata più da una necessità mancante che avevo nella vita... contanti. Lavorare come birraio non significava esattamente vivere uno stile di vita di lusso. A una piccola parte di me mancava il design, quindi non vedevo l'ora di tornarci in qualche modo. Ero a Filadelfia in visita ad amici e ho scoperto una vecchia opera d'arte mentre visitavo il museo della Liberty Bell nel centro commerciale Independance. Le parole che compongono la forma della Campana della Libertà su questo vecchio pezzo d'arte locale... Mi hanno dato delle idee. La stampa dei Phillies è stata la prima ad arrivare nel mio negozio e ho pensato che avrei potuto costruirci qualcosa. Le mie stampe sono cresciute basandosi su questa idea, aggiungendo altre mie idee e ordini personalizzati da parte degli acquirenti.
Avanti veloce fino ai giorni nostri... Dopo una lunga pausa di 5 anni, sono di nuovo attivo e funzionante! Ho vissuto nella Columbia Britannica, in Canada, negli ultimi anni, quindi la logistica era un po' difficile. Ora mi sono trasferito a Portland, nell'Oregon, sono entusiasta di riprenderlo di nuovo. Ora lavoro presso uno studio di architettura, progettando e costruendo torri residenziali ad uso misto nel PNW e BC. Tutti hanno bisogno di un hobby secondario, quindi sono entusiasta di vedere dove mi porterà!

I'm Matty, founder, owner and designer of DIM Design Shop! I started my shop all the way back in 2014 in the attic of my house in Pennsylvania.
I spent 6 years in college, earning my bachelors in architecture and masters in construction management. Graduating after the '08 recession was tough in the job market. I ended up getting a job I was not too fond of, burning out from a lot of car travel and stress. While in college, I spent time working at a brew pub... mainly to fill my car with gas. Got to learn a lot about beer, and it spurred a new found love. Growing tired and miserable of my first big boy job out of school, I decided to give it up to pursue a passion job in brewing.
The idea of my shop came more out of a missing necessity I had in life.... cash. Working as a brewer wasn't exactly living the luxury lifestyle. A little part of me missed design, so I was itching to get back to it somehow. I was in Philly visiting friends and discovered an old piece of artwork while touring the Liberty Bell museum on Independance mall. Words making up the shape of the Liberty Bell on this old piece of local art... It gave me ideas. The Phillies print was the first one to hit my shop and I thought, I could build something off this. My prints grew based off this one idea, adding more of my own ideas and custom orders from buyers.
Fast forward to present day... After a long 5 year hiatus, I'm back up and running! I lived in British Columbia, Canada for the last few years, so the logistics of that were a bit difficult. Now relocated in Portland, Oregon I am excited to pick this back up again. I now work at an architecture firm, designing and building residential mixed-use towers in the PNW and BC. Everybody needs a side hobby, so I'm excited to see where this takes me!
