Late-night art making goes viral, changes life forever.
This all started during one night of insomnia and a desire to recreate an icon. I wanted to take the current iteration of the Pride flag and add to its meaning. Out of that night, I created the "Progress" Pride Flag.
I posted it to my Facebook and Instagram and then fell asleep. The next morning I awoke to my phone buzzing and beeping non-stop for hooouuuurrrrssss. I'm not joking, it wouldn't stop and it definitely made me anxious. My flag design had gone viral and people were pouring into my personal account to leave messages, write comments, leave likes, etc. Shortly after, I was getting requests for flags, stickers, and all sorts of other items. These random strangers wanted to buy my work, so I quickly threw together a campaign on Kickstarter and let it fly! Within five days the goal was met and I became a new small business owner. Now I get to see my work go to other people all over the world for the first time in my life. But where do I go from here?
There are a lot of things I enjoy in life, and a lot of them are nerdy, so a lot of my work reflects those things I admire and appreciate. I'm a big consumer of music, film and video, and video games. Out of all that consumption comes ideas. Ideas for designs, video work, and any other medium that I might find interest in pursuing. Some small and some big but all interesting and amazing. To me, at least.
I really want to explore more of the ideas I have tucked away in my noggin, even some of the risky ones. What's failure? I'd like to have the freedom to find out!
I also want to find you! The person who is like me and loves to pursue art practices revolving around the things we love. Maybe we could share ideas together? The sky is the limit and I certainly love space. So let's explore it together.
