O'Filao
Why O'Filao? O'Filao is a tropical pine found on La Réunion, my home island. For me, it evokes its beautiful landscapes, its waterfalls, its volcanic rocks, the blue of the Indian Ocean and a whole palette of colours that inspire me every day. The word filao also contains the French word 'fil', which refers to the silver or gold thread (depending on the model) that I use to string my beads.
Stringing, spinning, knotting, braiding, etc. has always been a part of my life. But the idea of making beaded jewellery was born more recently during my travels to the most remote regions of South and Southeast Asia. I fell in love with the turquoise, lapis lazuli and coral necklaces and bracelets I saw, especially in the Himalayas. I was fascinated by gemstones and, from my first purchases, I became interested in sources of supply and the fascinating world of lapidaries.
In my creations I try to find the right balance between beauty and simplicity: the beauty of the gemstones and the colours; the simplicity and modernity of the designs. Above all, I try to create high-quality, easy-to-wear models with simple, elegant lines, drawing on a variety of influences: design and fashion, my travels and reading, but also my Reunionese culture and my daily walks in the south of France, where I now live.
I'm delighted that some of you are already wearing my necklaces and bracelets! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement!
