From Slacks and Zoom Calls to Shorts and Mitre Saws
When I was first introduced to Etsy, I was just a shopper who liked to purchase things from small businesses. The ease of making a purchase is what kept me coming back.
It was December of 2019 and my wife and I decided to buy a Peloton bike. We quickly realized that we didn't like the shoes laying around in the floor. She is extremely organized so I knew immediately I needed to find an organizer for the Peloton spin bike shoes. After searching a few sites including Etsy, I came up with a design based on the designs of several others on Pinterest, Etsy and a few others that I can't remember. They were all great but they also all had something I didn't like. The "Wide" 2-Pair Shoe Shelf that you see on my page is the original design that we came up with. The others are collaborations with customers who trusted me to build their idea.
I come from a long line of "creators" or "artists". My grandfather was a sign painter before signs were made on computers. He taught me how to not only make a superior product but how to interact with customers and make sure they get exactly what they ask for. My other grandfather was in sales and he taught me basically the same things, "Under-sell and Over-deliver" he would say. I learned my way around hand tools and power tools at a young age. I really enjoyed making things with my hands.
Once I built the shoe shelf organizer, I honestly just put it on the wall and forgot about it. As a Husband, Dad and I also had a full time job as an executive salesman for an oilfield service company in Oklahoma City, I didn't have much time for "hobbies".
Fast forward to March 2020 with the downturn in Oil/Gas and the Global Pandemic, I found myself with lots of extra time. My wife suggested that I put a picture of the spin bike shoe shelf on Etsy.
"Let's just see what happens!" - she said. So now, 36 months and over 2400 sales between etsy and wgroupdesigns.com later, thanks to customers like you, I have found a way to fill that "extra time" that I thought I had!
