The three arm cross -Triskele is known as the farmers cross and could be the most primitive and pagan form of Brigid's crosses variations.

Traditionally, the three armed cross was put in barns and animal shelters and therefore was used mostly by farmers and shepherds.
On the night of the 31st of January the head of the household would place a Triskele around the farm outside the buildings where animals shelter.
During the night a dew would fall on the cross giving it a sign that Brigid had touched and blessed it.
Then on the 1st of February the farmer takes the Triskele, walks around the farm and land invoking Brigid's name to create a cleansing boundary and to encourage growth. Afterwards the cross is hung in the cowshed.

The original meaning of the crosses expresses reverence to St.Brigid as well as symbolizing the woven Wheel of Life marking the cycle of nature.

Remembering also that Brigid is sometimes mentioned as a triple goddess (that is three sister goddesses named Brid); one goddess associated with poetry and traditional learning in general; one associated with the smith’s art; and the third associated with healing.

No casting technique is used here.

The surface is given a dark patina and then brushed back to a soft shine for the smaller cross and a little stronger patina is kept for the larger cross.
