Ecco un elenco delle cose che mi circondano ogni giorno. Le cose con cui mi piace giocare. Le cose che trasformo in altre cose.
Ho sempre amato creare cose. Da sempre. Fin da quando ero piccola, ritagliavo forme dalla carta colorata, le incollavo su altri fogli e poi le presentavo a mia madre come se fossero opere d'arte degne di essere esposte al Louvre.
A proposito del Louvre, una volta ho realizzato un modellino in scala dell'edificio usando la cartapesta, per un progetto scolastico. Dovevamo portarlo a scuola sul cassone del pick-up Ford del 1953 di mio nonno. Ho preso un bel voto.
Adoro disegnare, soprattutto enormi disegni astratti pieni di minuscoli cerchi, quadrati e triangoli. E poi personaggi dei cartoni animati, gente buffa con nasi grossi (come Jerry il Giullare, il mio avatar), gatti scontrosi, uccelli stravaganti e qualsiasi altra cosa mi faccia sorridere. Ogni tanto disegno anche un ritratto, e la mia tecnica preferita per questi è il puntinismo.
Così ho iniziato a creare dei cartoncini ACEO per altre persone a cui piaceva disegnare e dipingere ma che non gradivano il processo di ritaglio dei propri biglietti d'auguri. Poi ho iniziato a tagliare carta e cartoncini in altre forme e dimensioni. A un certo punto ho "scoperto" le carte per scrapbooking e ho disegnato alcuni modelli di buste (alcune delle mie buste sono state persino pubblicate in un libro della Lark, Pushing the Envelope). Qualche anno dopo, ho realizzato migliaia e migliaia di buste; e sono una vera accumulatrice quando si tratta di carte per scrapbooking.

Non ho più molto tempo per disegnare (quando non taglio carta e cartoncino, mi diletto con le perline per il mio altro negozio, time2cre8). Ma un giorno tornerò a farlo.

That's a list of the things that surround me every day. The things I love to play with. The things I turn into other things.
I've always loved to make things. Always. From way back when I was little, cutting out shapes from construction paper, pasting the shapes to other pieces of paper, and then presenting them to my Mom as if they were artworks worthy of being hung in the Louvre.
Speaking of the Louvre, I once made a scale model of the building using paper mache, for a school project. We had to take it to school in the back of my grandfather's 1953 Ford pickup truck. I got an A.
I love to draw, giant abstract drawings filled with teeny tiny circles, squares, and triangles. And cartoony characters, silly people with big noses (like Jerry the Jester, my avatar), surly cats, crazy birds, and whatever else gives me a chuckle. Every once in awhile I draw a portrait, and my favorite technique for those is pointillism.
So I started making ACEO blanks for other people who like to draw and paint but didn't so much like the process of cutting their own art cards. And then I started cutting up paper and cards into other shapes and sizes. At some point I "discovered" scrapbooking papers, and I designed some envelope templates (some of my envelopes were even featured in a Lark book, Pushing the Envelope). A few years later, I've made countless thousands of envelopes; and I'm a hoarder when it comes to scrapbooking papers.
And here I am.
I don't have much time to draw any more (when I'm not cutting up paper and cards, I'm playing with beads for my other shop, time2cre8). But I will again someday.
