Welcome to Ceotha, pronounced “Kyo-Ha”, meaning “of the mist” in Scottish Gaelic.
Several years ago, I began making handfasting cords as engagement gifts for friends. In early 2018, more and more people started asking for them for weddings, engagements, and vow renewals. What started as a passion project quickly grew into something much bigger, and in 2021, Ceotha Studio officially became a small team of artisans and support staff, working from our converted barn studio nestled in the Pentland Hills just outside Edinburgh, Scotland.
Our designs are rooted in traditional Celtic knotwork, inspired by the misty landscapes, ancient traditions, and quiet magic of this land. Many couples have told us they had never seen cords crafted in this distinctive style before, and today we are honoured that our designs have become cherished staples within the handfasting tradition worldwide.
Each cord is made to order with love and care, using high-quality, ethically sourced materials. Sustainability is at the heart of what we do – from working with local suppliers to using recyclable and compostable packaging wherever possible, ensuring that our craft honours both people and planet.
One of my favourite aspects of handfasting is its versatility. There is no right or wrong way to conduct this ancient ritual, and I particularly love working with couples to design cords that resonate with their relationship and fit perfectly into their celebration of love.
Our mission goes beyond crafting beautiful cords. We are dedicated to celebrating love, equality, and connection through our designs and educational resources. We are currently working on a short documentary, a book, and DIY kits for those who wish to weave their own cords with intention.
Let’s celebrate love and the power of connection, one knot at a time.
Thank you for trusting us to create something so central to your ceremony.
With love,
Ceo
