Frequently asked questions

Do you offer any custom lettering or address signs?

Unfortunately not at this time. Although we have done a few custom business signs and address signs, we are currently focusing on building our in stock inventory. This will allow us to ship our modern house numbers quickly after an order is placed.

What should I look for when purchasing address numbers?

When choosing house numbers here are a few details to look at when comparing quality:

1. Are the mounting screws exposed on the front side?

2. Are they made from plastic, or a plastic/aluminum sandwich layer?

3. If they are made from metal, how thick is the metal? Is it steel or aluminum? Is the metal hollow on the backside?

4. Are they coated or uncoated? If they are coated, are they powder coated or painted?

5. How are studs secured? Are they solidly threaded into the number or glued?

6. What are the studs made out of? Are they aluminum, or are they steel?

Why has Ferosa chosen the materials it uses?

1. NUMBERS - We use aluminum for our modern house numbers because it's very strong, doesn't rust, and is lightweight. Plastic can warp and fade in the sun, isn't as strong, and not aesthetically pleasing. Steel can rust over time if the coating deteriorates or scratches.

2. STUDS - Our mounting studs are threaded aluminum. Aluminum offers far better corrosion resistance than steel. By using threaded studs our studs are fastened more securely and cleaner than gluing smooth dowel studs.

3. SPACERS - We've chosen aluminum instead of plastic spacers due to strength, durability, and looks. We powder coat our aluminum spacers to colour match the house numbers.

4. FINISH - For durability, our numbers are powder coated instead of painted.

How do I install my new house numbers?

With each order we include easy to follow installation guide that includes color photos. With just a few basic tools and some adhesive (we recommend epoxy), almost anyone can install their new modern house numbers quickly. Send us a message if you'd like us to send you our installation guide.

Do you sell letters?

We offer letters "A" and "B" only. These are available in 4", 5", 6", and 8" sizes. These are designed to be used as unit numbers as part of a complete address.

We also offer dashes "-" as a separate listing. These are designed for addresses such as "349-A". In this example you would purchase (4) digits and in the personalization you'd write "349-A". You'd then go to the listing for dashes and add a dash to your cart before proceeding to checkout with the (2) items.

What tools are required to install my house numbers?

Only a few basic tools are required to install our luxury address numbers. There's a good chance you already have everything you need. However if you're missing a tool or two, we're betting you've got a neighbour or friend that can lend you what you need. Here's the tool list:

1. TAPE MEASURE: To align your template on the mounting surface.

2. LEVEL: To level your template.

3. DRILL: To drill holes for the mounting studs. A hammer drill if drilling into masonry or stone.

4. 3/16 DRILL BIT: This is the size of hole that the mounting studs will fit into. A masonry bit will be required for drilling into concrete or brick. A diamond tipped drill bit may be required for some stone.

5. RUBBER MALLET (Optional): To gently tap the house number

Which surfaces can I install my house numbers on?

Our house numbers can be installed on most surfaces. You'll want to select a rigid surface so that the numbers are mounted securely and won't move. To mount our house numbers you simply need to drill small holes in the mounting surface in which the mounting studs will be inserted into. You'll then apply an adhesive in the holes to secure the studs and seal the hole.

RECOMMENDED MOUNTING SURFACES
1. Stucco

2. Wood

3. Brick

4. Concrete

5. Stone (as flat as possible)

6. Hardie board

NOT RECOMMENDED

1. Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is not the best mounting surface. It's difficult to apply an adhesive to the wall behind the vinyl, and tricky to seal the holes through the vinyl to keep moisture out. However it can be done.

Should I mount my house numbers horizontally or vertically?

You'll first want to choose your mounting location. Find a location that's easy to see from the street so that your address numbers can be quickly spotted. Then determine whether your house numbers will fit in that location horizontally or vertically. The most popular mounting orientation is horizontal, however vertical orientations are often best for posts or pillars.

If your siding has horizontal ribs, slats, or boards, it might be easiest to mount your numbers horizontally along one or two of the pieces. If your siding is mounted in a vertical fashion it may be best to install your house numbers vertically to match.

Which address number color would look bets on my house?

Contrasting colors stand out the most and often look best. Black and dark bronze house numbers contrast the most with lighter surfaces. White contracts and looks the best when mounted on dark surfaces. Brass and brushed aluminum are medium shades so they look good on both dark or light surfaces.

Also consider the color scheme of your home and decide if you want to match the theme. However, the color of your modern house numbers don't necessarily need to match your homes colors or accents.

If you're still uncertain after all of the considerations, choose a finish that makes you happy:)

What is the spacing between numbers?

All numbers are kerned (spaced) differently for every specific address and combination of numbers. Typical spacing between numbers is roughly as follows:

HORIZONTAL SPACING (WHEN MOUNTED HORIZONTALLY)

- 4" numbers: 0.5"

- 5" numbers: 0.6"

- 6" numbers: 0.7"

- 8" numbers: 1"

- 10" numbers: 1.2"

- 12" numbers: 1.4"

VERTICAL SPACING (WHEN MOUNTED VERTICALLY)

- 4" numbers: 0.53"

- 5" numbers: 0.66"

- 6" numbers: 0.79"

- 8" numbers: 1.06"

- 10" numbers: 1.32"

- 12" numbers: 1.58"
