Why I'm here
I love books! Which, if you knew me when I was in seven, would probably make you laugh because I couldn't read, I went to tutoring, resource classes and everything else you could imagine, and nothing worked, although if I’m being 100% honest, which I am, I couldn’t tie my shoes either, but then God created Velcro in the 80’s and solved that problem for me.
Then one day I found a beat up old crusty copy of Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Three Investigators, The Mystery of the Whispering Mummy and after struggling through the first chapter I couldn’t stop, it took forever for me to finish that first book, but it has lead to a life of a thousand books.
I’m here, because I love books, they have changed me, comforted me, disturbed my black and white assumptions and most important were the things my mom and I had in common that made me her favorite among my brothers and sister. (They know it’s true) When she passed, she left me and my siblings each a letter and in mine she told me that her favorite memory was of me sitting in the kitchen while she made dinner and telling her every single detail of whatever book I was reading at the time, it’s one of my favorite memories too, one that I hold close and value.
Anyway, I hope you find something different and fun, I hope you find your very own Whispering Mummy that will hook you and bring you everything that reading has brought to me.
And yes, I still have that book, and about a hundred more Three Investigator Books.
