Hi, I'm Mari-Leen — fashion designer, pattern maker, and the woman behind Pattern Sewciety.
I've spent my career designing womenswear, and what I've always believed is this: a well-made dress can change how a woman carries herself. That belief is woven into every pattern I create.
Pattern Sewciety was born from my love of patternmaking and my frustration with sewing patterns that were either too basic or too intimidating. My patterns are designed for the home sewer who wants to make clothes that are genuinely stylish — pieces that look like they came from a boutique, not a craft table.
I'm based in Upington, South Africa, on the banks of the Orange River — a small town a long way from the fashion capitals of the world, but that distance has never stopped me from designing with a global woman in mind. Every pattern I release is tested, carefully graded across sizes, and written with clear step-by-step instructions so you can sew with confidence no matter your experience level.
When you sew one of my patterns, you're not just making a dress. You're making your dress — fitted to your body, sewn by your hands, chosen because it reflects who you are.
