EL COMIENZO
Pretty Sick Designs fue lanzado en la primavera de 2018 por Heather Burgess en Calgary, Alberta.
Heather se enfermó por primera vez con una enfermedad crónica cuando tenía 13 años. Han pasado 14 años.
Su tímpano estalló en la víspera de Año Nuevo de 2003 y su salud nunca se recuperó. Diagnosticada con fibromialgia, síndrome de fatiga crónica y POTS, estaba increíblemente enferma. Apenas llegó a la escuela secundaria, teniendo que tomar un año extra. Pero de alguna manera fue aceptada en un prestigioso programa de periodismo en la Universidad de Carleton, en Ottawa.
Después de graduarse de su licenciatura, Heather comenzó la escuela de posgrado estudiando ciencias políticas. Sin embargo, después de un período de trabajo, rápidamente descubrió que no podría trabajar. Al regresar a su hogar en Calgary, Heather sabía que necesitaba poner su salud en primer lugar. Durante más de tres años, descansó, aprendió herramientas de gestión de la salud y se comprometió a impulsar sus actividades.
Estando tanto en casa, Heather usaba su pijama día tras día. Finalmente, decidió invertir en ropa de "día de descanso" que fuera cómoda pero también linda. Entonces se le ocurrió una idea: una línea de ropa hecha especialmente para personas como ella.
CH-CH-CAMBIOS
En noviembre de 2017, dio un salto de fe y decidió comenzar a perseguir su sueño salvaje en serio.
El objetivo de Pretty Sick Designs no es solo ropa linda y cómoda para las personas que enfrentan problemas de salud. El corazón de este proyecto es alentar y dar esperanza y apoyo a los innumerables hombres y mujeres que sufren día tras día con una enfermedad crónica. Una enfermedad que es invisible y tan a menudo incomprendida, lo que lleva a tanto aislamiento y desesperación. Este es un esfuerzo profundamente personal porque las personas detrás de la ropa saben exactamente lo que todos y cada uno de los clientes van a experimentar.
NUESTRA MISIÓN
Esto no es solo un negocio. Es un ministerio que tiene como objetivo construir y alentar a cada persona que tropieza con nuestro sitio web. Especialmente para aquellos que compran nuestra ropa. Es por eso que Pretty Sick Designs envía un regalo especial a cada cliente. Cada cliente es de suma importancia. THE BEGINNING
Pretty Sick Designs was launched in Spring 2018 by Heather Burgess in Calgary, Alberta.
Heather first got sick with chronic illness when she was 13-years-old. It has since been 14 years.
Her eardrum burst on New Year’s Eve 2003 and her health never recovered. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and POTS, she was incredibly sick. She barely made it through high school, having to take an extra year. But somehow she was accepted into a prestigious journalism program at Carleton University, in Ottawa.
After graduating from her undergraduate degree, Heather started graduate school studying political science. However, after a work term, she quickly discovered that she would not be able to work. Moving back home to Calgary, Heather knew she needed to put her health first. For over three years, she rested, learned health management tools, and committed to pacing her activities.
Being at home so much, Heather would wear her pyjamas day after day after day. Finally, she decided to invest in some “rest-day” clothes that were comfortable but also cute. Then an idea struck her: a line of clothing made especially for people just like her.
CH-CH-CHANGES
In November 2017, she took a leap of faith and decided to start pursuing her wild dream seriously.
The goal of Pretty Sick Designs isn’t just cute and comfy clothes for people dealing with health problems. The heart of this project is to encourage and give hope and support to the countless men and women suffering day in, day out with a chronic illness. An illness that is invisible and so often misunderstood, leading to so much isolation and despair. This is a deeply personal endeavour because the people behind the clothing know just what each and every customer is going experiencing.
