From Blank Slate to Bold Lines: A Creative Journey in Color by Number
When I first opened this shop back in 2017, I didn’t really know what I was doing—just that I needed to create. I’d recently moved, life was in transition, and although I felt the pull to make something, the timing wasn’t right. The shop sat mostly untouched, a digital blank slate waiting for its purpose.
Fast forward to February 2025. Something shifted. After years working as a digital interface designer—perfecting clean lines, precise pixels, and tight grids—I started craving something looser, more expressive. I returned to this shop not with a business plan, but with a question: What if creativity didn’t need a reason?
That’s when I discovered Color by Number. At first, it was just a curiosity, but I quickly saw the potential—endless styles, endless themes, endless ways for people to engage with art. The more I created, the more I realized this format could be both approachable and deep. It’s easy to start, but you don’t have to stay inside the lines.
My home office is where it all happens now. It’s a moody little space carved from a blank, forgettable room—filled with vintage toys, worn books, and odd little objects that seem to hold stories. I work here by day as a designer, but it’s the long nights that feed the soul. That’s when themes come to life, when ideas take shape, when everything quiets down enough to listen.
What I hope most is that people don’t just use my designs as-is. I want them to see them as invitations. Color by Number can be relaxing, fun, even educational—but it can also be more. Digital users especially can layer, redraw, and add nuance beyond the preset palettes. I love imagining someone using my designs as a foundation, then pushing them into something uniquely their own.
