Search Improvements

Where is the search drop-down?

While the search drop-down has been a part of Etsy for several years, most people don’t use it, and are not aware of how it works. With that in mind, we are simplifying the search experience.

How does search now work?

At the top of the homepage, you'll see a search box with no drop-down. You are prompted to search for items or shops.

As you type your search, you’ll see automatic suggestions of search terms, categories and subcategories. For example, below we see suggestions for "scarf." In one click you can navigate directly to handmade or vintage scarves, or more specific types of scarves. The top suggestion will show you all results for scarves.

You can search for shop names directly from the search box. Some searches will show a link to shop results at the bottom of the page, like "joy inspiration."

And some searches will trigger shop suggestions at the top of the page. Item results themselves are unchanged.

You can search your favorites by selecting the "Your Favorites" check box in the search tools.

People search is located on the right side of your Activity Feed.

How do I search within a shop?

Rather than using the search box at the top of the page, you can search within a specific shop that you are visiting by using the new search bar in the middle of the page.

How do I search for people, teams, forums, treasuries and blogs?

Rather than have one big search box with drop-downs, the top search box is reserved for item and shop search. Searching for other content on Etsy can be done on the appropriate pages. Specifically, you can search for teams on the Teams page, forum threads on the Forums page, treasuries on the Treasury page, and blog articles on the Blog page.
