DIY Eco Print Natural Bundle Dye Kit for Booklet or Silk Scarf, Make Your Own Art Journal or Bandanna, Arts and Crafts by Licia Lucas Pfadt
from the eARTh: Eco Print on Paper Kit
Natural Bundle dyeing, also known as eco printing, is the process of using pigments
from various natural sources to print a design onto fibers. Placing flowers, leaves, and
foliage directly on the pages. Wrap it tight in twine and place in a steamer over hot
water for a couple hours. You use the steam from the boiling water below to extract the
natural color. What’s actually happening is the dyestuff is releasing its pigments and
staining the fabric, leaving imprints directly on the fiber where each of the ingredients
has touched the fabric.
In order to make your results strong and last, this kit includes some magical iron, also
known as a color changer, that helps the dyestuff release to the paper fibers. Connect
with nature first and go outside and collect a variety of leaves and flowers to use in your
project, as well as using the ones included in the kit. Mother Earth is full of beautiful
surprises! Some of my favorite flowers are wild geranium and columbine. You can use
all parts: stem, leaves and flowers. I encourage you to be playful and experiment.
Each kit includes:
- blank booklet 4x3 inch or silk scarf 20x20 inch (you choose at check out)
- Marigold flowers (grown in my home garden) producing yellows and oranges
- Eucalyptus leaves producing greens and browns
- Cochineal beetles producing fuchsia, pinks and purples (very potent, can be ground
into powder or left whole)
- Madder Root (grown in my home garden) produces reds (very potent)
- Magical Color Changer Iron for booklet
- Twine
- Vinegar in Spray bottle (add water) for booklet
- Alum Mordant for scarf
- Soap and Vinegar rinse for scarf
The magic of dyeing with plants lies in the infinite variety of results, allowing you to
create something truly unique. Have fun exploring the world of natural eco-printing!

On Packaging…
All of my pieces are packed with care to ensure their safe arrival. I collect clean, used packing materials from friends and local businesses to reuse in my packaging. I would be so pleased if you continued the cycle and also reuse these materials or find someone who can (another potter maybe). It is important to me to help reduce plastics in the environment and landfills.
