This solid glass pendant has a wonderful spiral galaxy effect inside the glass, I've used a rich dark electric blue dichroic to create sparkling blue stars that have a slight purple violet shift when moved so light hits it from a different angle, which makes a really intense pendant
The pendant is just a touch over 30mm in diameter (about 1.2 inch), and at the fattest central part is about 16mm thick (about 0.62 of an inch). I have domed the front to act as a lens which helps magnify and accentuate the effects inside, and it also means it allows the galaxy to be partly seen from the side too. I used a laboratory grade of borosilicate glass ('Pyrex' is the well known trade name of this type of glass) which is optically very, very clear. On the back of the pendant I've used a glass that looks black unless held up to a very strong light, which then reveals its dark plum, then slightly flattened the back to help it hang neatly.
On top I’ve formed a loop to hang it from and supply it with either a silver plated snake chain, or a black Greek leather cord fitted with a sterling silver clasp
The pendant has been made entirely by hand, using borosilicate glass using both laboratory grade clear glass which has excellent clarity, and high quality art glass. To produce the whirlpool I have used 'Dichroic' glass which is made by coating glass with an ultra thin layer of metals which reflects light in an usual way shifting colours depending on the direction the light hits it! I have used a rainbow dichroic which corkscrews down inside the solid glass pendant to form a glittering spiral 'well.'
The glass has been fully annealed in a microprocessor controlled kiln, and comes with a gift box and certificate, that I have individually signed, stating that it is a handmade one-off item, made by me.
Every pendant I make is always slightly different, so are always a true one of a kind piece of artisan flamework made entirely by hand by lampwork in my studio in the heart of the English countryside.
