JL. Comperat and M. Waring started designing and crafting contemporary glass decorative objects in 1978, hence the name of the studio 1178designs.
Their "non-formal" craft training and their free spirit allowed them to define their
own stained glass style. New ways to use glass are constantly under development in their studio. They are specially well for known for their jewelry boxes...
They have been featured in New york Magazine, New York Times, Daily News,
Casa Vogue, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, ABC news, Scottish TV and many other publications. In 1997 they received an award for "excellence in design" from Metropolitan Home Magazine.
Glass Master Guild awarded them 1st prize at their 4th annual Art Glass Competition.

Peter Gabriel, Pierre Cardin, Bruce springsteen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ashford and Simpson, Natasha Kinski, Robert Downey sr & jr, Sue Simmons, Cindy Adams, Robert stern, Patricia Kennedy Lawford are some of the big names that have bought or receive as gifts some of the work of 1178designs.

As all the other reviews say, these frames are just gorgeous! I am so very pleased with them. Love the look of the light coming through the glass. Very well constructed with a decent weight so they will be sturdy and not topple over if bumped. Solidly protected for shipping. And receiving them with a classic photo of Audrey Hepburn in the frame gave it an extra classy touch upon opening the package.

In 1977 travelling in India - they met exploring the incredible culture - a year later and much inspired in November - 1178designs was born in New York City with the first client being the replacement of a southwest window in their sixth ave studio - a stained glass exotic image window that is now somehow a landmark heading uptown.
Jean Luc Comperat - architect - graduate of L'Ecole National Superieure des Beaux Arts de Paris - France and "The Chef" guarantees all objects will withstand generations of beautiful homes - Minouche Waring always a devout craftsperson with careers in television, advertising and theatre improvises with all wonderful colors remenicent of asian travels.
The hundreds of one-of-a-kind objects have been collected and featured in among others NY Magazine, NY Times, Daily News, Casa Vogue, AD, Elle Decor, ABC news, Scottish TV - awarded "excellence in design" by Metropolitan Home and Glass Masters Guild awarded 1st prize at annual art glass competition.
