A lifelong tech enthusiast who turned a love of making into a small, growing 3D printing shop.
i, I’m John — a lifelong tech enthusiast and maker based in Warwick, Rhode Island. My love for technology started back in the 1980s when I was twelve years old, tinkering with early home computers and teaching myself everything I could. By eighteen I had launched my own computer consulting business, and while it never grew into a large operation, it kept me connected to the world of tech that I’ve always been passionate about.
For over twenty years, my professional life was in the mortgage industry. I worked my way up from loan originator to processor, and eventually became a senior FHA underwriter. That career took an unexpected turn in 2023 when my employer decided to exit the mortgage business entirely and laid off the whole division. With interest rates high and lenders scaling back, opportunities in underwriting became extremely limited.
That’s when I returned to something I’d stepped away from years earlier: 3D printing.
I first got into the hobby around 2017, but the machines back then were inconsistent and frustrating. After the industry-wide contraction in 2023, I took a chance on myself. I invested in a modern 3D printer and discovered just how far the technology had come. The reliability and precision reignited everything I loved about making things.
I initially started printing toys for my grandson, which graduated to printing items to sell, then taught myself 3D modeling so I could create the functional parts I needed for my own projects — like accessories for my Can‑Am Spyder. Over time, I began designing some of the items you’ll find in this shop, while others are pieces I’ve personally curated, customized, or improved to meet my standards for quality and durability.
What began as a single machine has since grown into a small, carefully managed printer farm with several modern printers — and more on the way. This setup allows me to keep up with demand, experiment with new ideas, and maintain consistent quality across everything I produce.
Today, I’m in a semi‑retired chapter of life. I’m still open to returning to the mortgage world, but the industry has changed, and age can be a barrier. So I’ve poured my energy into growing this shop — creating and curating functional gear, expressive figures, and practical solutions that blend engineering with creativity.
Every item here is something I’ve personally printed, inspected, and stand behind. Fully compliant with Etsy’s Creativity Standards, nothing in my shop is ‘push‑print‑and‑ship’ — each piece is carefully customized and hand‑finished to meet my own quality standards. This shop isn’t just a business for me — it’s how I stay connected to the technology I’ve loved since childhood, and how I support myself, my wife, and 3 dachshunds while building something meaningful.
Thanks for being here, and for supporting a small maker who still gets excited every time a new idea comes off the printer.
