Oak + Cotton Beginnings
My Etsy journey began in 2015 with my son's first birthday. After much searching, I designed his invitation and printables for his lumberjack party. I started my shop with those designs and before I knew it, designing became my part time job.
The name Oak + Cotton comes from my family and my love of designing paper goods. Paper can be made from both oak trees and cotton. Oak trees are prevalent in California where I have spent my entire life. They have a deep root and many roots that spread out wider than its branches, representing my family here and in the South. Which brings me back to cotton. My grandparents and their families were sharecroppers, picking cotton for a living. My grandparents moved to California in 1954, beginning our family's life in Livermore. I was raised in California, but with roots in the South. Southern hospitality, love, family, and good food were abundant. The name of my shop is a nod to all that shaped who I am and what I am doing now, designing and creating special pieces printed on paper.
Drawing and designing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Somehow I always go back to it, my first love. I am so excited to share my love of design and making items that others can use for their special events surrounded by family and friends. I find it so rewarding to be part of such important days. I'm so glad to be able to reach new clients all over the world through Etsy!
