Former Interior designer turns hobby into new business passion!
I have been working in mostly residential interior design, heading up my own company for nearly 35 years. I loved what I did, but unfortunately was unable to lift the sample books any longer due to spinal stenosis. I had built a very nice repeat and referral clientele over the years, and so enjoyed engaging with my mostly female customers. Many projects were done over a long period of years, as their budget allowed. The most satisfying thing, was to hear back year after year that they had either, bought a larger home and need my help again, or they were ready to start another room! I got to know their kids, their likes and dislikes, and even their treasured pets!
When I closed A Delicate Touch Interiors, I went to my local hospital and became a regular volunteer, and spent most of my time as a patient advocate. I missed having my own business, but loved the people and the work, I still volunteer there twice a week.
When I received an up-cycled glass garden totem as a gift from a friend, I took one look at it and I was smitten. I had always loved collecting glass and pottery, and even had four booths in several antique shops, in the central NJ area over ten years. I decided to try my hand at the craft and I just loved it! My husband was so supportive. I knew, I had found my new passion. The first month and a half, I scouted every thrift store in the area and filled my studio with LOADS of inventory. I think I made thirty sculptures the first six weeks.
When I learned about ETSY.COM and surfed through the shops of the artist and Vintage shop owners, I knew I found my place of business. I love what I am doing, I believe I will be doing this creative, fun work, for a long time into the future!
