A sewing machine, a little fabric, and a dash of happiness.
When I was a l little girl I spent long summers with my grandmother. These summers were filled with long breakfast conversations, plenty of reading time, and my introduction to sewing.
Both of my grandmother's were experts with a sewing machine. My maternal grandmother would sew late into the night making clothing for her children after losing her husband early in life. My mother still tells stories of waking up in the middle of the night, and still being able to hear the hum of the sewing machine. My paternal grandmother was known not for clothing, but for her quilts. Exceptionally talented, both with a machine and by hand.
During these summers, I picked up the basics from my paternal grandmother. I would watch her many times, and then when I was finally old enough I got to create a quilt of my own. While it was small, and for a doll bed, I had still been exposed to the art of creating something with my own hands; from the design aspect, to the final touches.
This love overtime transformed into AEK Studio and Design. For years I have been creating quilts, and covers and clothes for family and friends. Now I am taking things a bit farther, and have opened a shop! With the hope, that at the end of the day, my grandmothers are pleased with my use of their skills.
