When moving from Green Bay to Madison, WI, I was procrastinating packing one day by scrolling Facebook Marketplace. "Beeswax" was the listing title. It made me think about the candle a friend was just gifted at a baby shower. It smelled SO good. I wondered if I could make one myself.
The next day was moving day and our whole life was in a U-Haul and the back of my sedan. "Honey, can I pick up a something on our way down to Madison?" He just kind of looked at me like I was crazy and said "if you can fit it in your car, knock yourself out." Halfway we stopped for gas and I shoved a 3lb block of the most naturally golden substance in his face. He was understandably startled, sniffed, and visibly relaxed. "What is that?!" Clearly enjoying the sweet aroma over the gasoline floating in the air, I told him I picked up 10lbs of beeswax.
Met with further skepticism, I proceeded to busy myself with unpacking for a few weeks and kept coming across the box occasionally. I finally got it out one day, picked up an old glass coffee carafe at Goodwill and made myself a candle. It was just as cheerful and heavenly as I remembered my friend's candle to be. After a year of testing different wicks, jars, and playing with a scent or two, I gave a few good ones to family for Christmas. They all asked for more! We went back to Green Bay to visit friends and I picked up more beeswax several times, making more to sell to friends and family before testing a few sets for Advent the following year.
I launched A Few Random Things fall of 2022 with Advent candles and my Jesse Tree Ornaments born from my inability to find a set I liked online. Our new house has a basement workshop for me now and my kitchen table is my art studio. I love letting my girls dabble with watercolors or other mediums while I paint and they love getting to help me unwrap candles from molds or pack orders. We all do a happy dance when someone puts in an order and we all say a prayer for you. This little side hobby born from "I wonder if I can make that myself" has turned into a family business that we hopes bring joy to your home.

If you're lighting your wreath each night, I suggest buying 2 packs because the first candle is not going to last for the next couple weeks ;). They really make our wreath beautiful!
