About

Eco-dyed hand made textile home-wares and accessories.

So what sparked the idea for A Home For Tandy? Well, it was quilts. I have always loved quilts! The cozy sumptuousness, the textural, almost 3D quality and even the historical significance has inspired and interested me for many years. To date, I have given away more quilts as gifts than I have made for myself. Nothing says “I care about you” more than a hand made labour of love that provides comfort, warmth and the reminder of a joyous occasion in the home of the recipient.

More recently, as I was planning a wedding quilt for my sister Cathy, I found myself rather uninspired by the prospect of using commercial fabrics. Don’t get me wrong, there are some absolutely gorgeous fabric designs out there, I just wanted this one to be really unique. So I decided to put to good use some techniques I learned while studying textile design at RMIT. Natural dyeing is a method of colouring undyed fabric using plants and other natural materials. While there is a science to it, results are difficult to accurately predict which makes that moment when the dyed fabric is revealed so exciting! Any natural fibre can be used but I predominantly use silk because of its irresistible lustre and feel and because it takes the colours so beautifully.

The process of creating Cathy’s quilt soon prompted ideas for other products using similar techniques and I now have an insatiable passion to share the beautiful results with the world…. so A Home For Tandy was born!
If you’re curious about the dyeing process, there are some examples on my blog

Additional policies and FAQs
All A Home For Tandy products are created individually by hand. Any "imperfection" should be regarded as a feature of hand made items and not as a fault.
Should you be unhappy with your piece, I will exchange it in accordance with the refund policy.

CARING FOR YOUR PIECE: A Home For Tandy products are made to be used and enjoyed every day. However, to prolong the life of your piece, I suggest gentle washing in cold water with a mild detergent and dry in the shade.

CUSTOM ORDERS: I am happy to discuss ideas for custom orders. However, please bare in mind that the eco-dyeing process is never 100% predictable. So while I can achieve colours and patterns/prints within some certainty, it is best if buyers remain open minded to the final results. There are many variables in the process and nature will ultimately have her way!

WHOLESALE AND CONSIGNMENT: Please convo me if you are a retailer with a wholesale enquiry.
