The Blessings of Struggles
My husband and I had our first son after being married for two years. He came just as we hoped and planned, and was a sweet and charming baby . When he turned 18 months, we decided to start trying for our second child. Having had little trouble for our first, we didn't anticipate any struggle for the second. As months went by, we began to grow frustrated and confused as to why the second baby wasn't coming. We are religious people, and believe that the Lord has a hand in all our doings, however the thoughts and doubts began creeping into my mind. Was I not a good enough mother to my first son? Did my husband and I need to change or do something in order to be blessed with a second child? I questioned and wondered and stressed about everything from my womanhood, to my parenting skills. After a year of trying and failing, I knew I needed a distraction. I had always liked crafting and sewing, and so I decided rather than to continue looking homeless and depressed, I would create accessories to make myself feel more beautiful. I also knew that finding accessories for boys was difficult, so I created things for my son as well.
People began commenting on my items, and requesting their own items, and very soon I had a shop created and was selling online. I found joy in what I was doing, and was grateful for the distraction. We continued trying for a baby, went through a few procedures and LOTS of hormone supplements--my poor husband!-- and FINALLY were able to get our second child. A beautiful baby boy, who is OBSESSED with his 5 year old brother. Since then, we have added another boy to the mix. Three boys means we’ve got a lot of bow ties and always need for more! I now have the best of both worlds... A shop that I love, and the babies I wanted and longed for.
