The Transformation of Mixed Media Creations
I began creating with color years ago. I was introduced to Mandalas first, moved into the wonderful world of metallic paints, incorporated vintage papers, and from there, graduated to mixed media madness! I have always wrote in store bought journals and have a stash going back years. One of the most inspirational motivation for me to keep writing is just how inviting the covers were. How they spoke to me and encouraged me to open up and just write. Whether it was a little or several pages, the journal just wanted me write in it. Inseam of buying the books, I decided to make my own. Well, I got so into the creative process, I ended up creating too many items too fast and had a surplus of different art pieces. I was given the advice from a fellow artist to keep one and sell the others to share my work. That is what started Lexie Lou Creations.
After years under the personal artist name, I reflected on the stories that were shared with me from customers that purchased my journals and realized there was a theme across all stories: memories. Whether it was a planner, a journal, home decor, or a bookmark, they all represented creating or capturing memories. I started to jot down, short journaling notes around why I do this, why did I get into journal making, especially when there are so many technological options to capture ideas, personal moments, etc. and why did I start writing in my own journals and diaries so many years ago? My answer is simple: I don't want to forget my life. I want to reflect on the past. I want to share my thoughts with my kids. Why do I worry? Alzheimer's and dementia runs through both sides of my family and has impacted every single generation thus far. With that, I came up with A Journaled Mind. I figured that this name change captures why I do what I do, encourages others to journal the world through their eyes (the old fashioned way), and bring awareness around this devastating disease.
To do my part, I joined as an advocate for the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) and committed to donating a portion of all sales to the cause. My contributions will range from a monthly minimum donation of at least 10% and up to 100% during special events, such as fundraising or awareness campaigns.
Most of my information will be located on my Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/ajournaledmind/ so feel free to take a peek, like the page, and join in the creative conversations while supporting a fantastic cause.
Thank you for listening to my story.
