Sou Yvonne, proprietária, designer e criadora da A Modern Tale.
Eu amo criar desde criança. Me matriculei em uma escola de arte, mas desisti depois de um ano e meio, principalmente por ter escolhido o curso errado (pintura a óleo não é para mim – é muito bagunçada!). Depois disso, optei pelo caminho "seguro" e previsível. Consegui um emprego de escritório e passei muitos anos criando filhos e me permitindo esquecer meu lado criativo. No meu aniversário de 40 anos, me dei de presente um curso simples de desenho e reacendi minha relação com a criatividade. Desde então, tenho explorado todos os caminhos e aproveitado cada um deles.
Comecei a aprender a fazer joias sozinha há cerca de 15 anos. Estava tão empolgada com a possibilidade de criar tantos estilos diferentes que meu trabalho acabou sem foco e, consequentemente, sem alma. Ao longo dos anos, consegui centrar minha arte naquilo que me toca e restringir os materiais que utilizo àqueles que são compatíveis com minhas habilidades, meu temperamento e o estilo que desejo alcançar.
Quando inaugurei a A Modern Tale em 2020, meu objetivo era criar joias rústicas e belas para quem ama viver com simplicidade e liberdade. A maioria das minhas peças é feita com argila de metal precioso (PMC), pois considero essa a melhor maneira de aplicar meus próprios designs e texturas exclusivos (saiba mais sobre PMC abaixo*). Frequentemente, combino o metal com pedras preciosas naturais ou contas de vidro vintage.
Tenho orgulho de criar cada peça à mão e de saber que meus clientes estão recebendo uma obra de arte de alta qualidade. Se não atender aos meus padrões, não sai da minha oficina. Reformulo uma peça até ficar satisfeita com o resultado, até o último ajuste de um gancho de brinco.
Gosto de pensar que minhas criações trazem um pouco de alegria ao mundo. Sinto-me honrada cada vez que alguém escolhe comprar na minha loja e sou muito grata pelo apoio ao meu pequeno negócio independente.

*Sobre a argila de metal precioso (PMC):
Trata-se de uma argila composta por partículas finamente moídas de metais preciosos, água e um aglutinante orgânico. Ela pode ser moldada, texturizada, estampada e manipulada como qualquer outra argila. Após a secagem, a peça é cuidadosamente limpa e lixada, e então queimada em um forno, onde a água e o aglutinante evaporam e as partículas de metal se fundem em um processo chamado sinterização.
A maioria das minhas peças é feita de PMC de prata de lei, embora ultimamente eu esteja experimentando com argila de cobre, e você poderá ver alguns desses itens na minha loja no futuro!

I'm Yvonne, sole owner, designer, and creator at A Modern Tale.
I have loved creating since I was a small child. I enrolled in art school, but dropped out after a year and a half, mostly due to having chosen the wrong major (oil painting isn't for me--so messy!). After that, I chose to follow the "safe" and expected route. I got an office job and spent many years raising children and allowing myself to forget the creative part of me. For my 40th birthday, I gave myself the gift of a simple drawing class and rekindled my relationship with creativity. Since then, I've been exploring all the paths and enjoying every one of them.
I began to teach myself jewelry making about 15 years ago. I was so excited about having the ability to make so many different styles of jewelry that my work really had no focus and therefore no soul. Over the ensuing years, I’ve been able to center my art around that which resonates with me and narrow down the media I use to those which are compatible with my skills and temperament and the style I want to achieve.
When I opened A Modern Tale in 2020, my goal was to design beautiful rustic jewelry for those who love to live simply and free. Most of my pieces are made with precious metal clay (PMC) as I find it is the best way to apply my own unique designs and textures (learn more about PMC below*). Often I will pair the metal with natural gemstones or vintage glass beads.
I take pride in creating each item by hand and knowing that my customers are getting a high quality piece of art. If it doesn’t meet my standards, it doesn’t leave my shop. I will rework a piece until I’m satisfied it’s the best it can be, right down to the final tweak of an ear wire.
I like to think that my creations are bringing a little joy out there in the world. I feel honored each and every time someone chooses to purchase from my shop and I'm so grateful for your support of my independent small business.

*About precious metal clay (PMC):
This is a clay made up of finely ground precious metal particles, water, and an organic binder. It can be shaped, textured, embossed, and manipulated like any other clay. After drying, the piece is carefully cleaned up and sanded, then fired in a kiln, where the water and binder burn off and the metal particles are fused together in a process called sintering.
Most of my pieces are made of sterling silver PMC, although I have lately been experimenting with copper clay, and you may see some of these items in my shop in the future!
