There has been a fairly recent revolution in the world of sewing, cross stitch and other traditional crafts. I'm not sure where it started, but at some point people decided that traditional patterns weren't what we all wanted to stitch. Some of us wanted to sew lifelike replicas of the Millennium Falcon, whilst others of us felt the need to stitch some of our favourite show's best one liners on to a sampler. In short, there were people out there who didn't really feel they were suited to stitching fluffy bunnies, kittens and pink hearts but liked to sew.

I owe a lot to some of the early pioneers of Star Wars and other geek stitchery, without whose work I probably wouldn't have had the courage to try designing patterns myself. The message they gave me was that just because a medium is traditional, you don't have to do traditional things with it.
