I started making spindles when a friend wanted to buy a generic drop spindle to learn on, I looked at it and offered to make one instead. After some research I realized I needed a lathe that I quickly purchased Craigslist for $50 along with some walnut, cherry lumber and tools. So about $200 later I set off to make my friend a $20 drop spindle… I enjoyed time on the lathe and that time led me to getting better at making spindles. After a few weeks it was suggested I try to toss a few on ETSY and see what happens and my first few sales were made which motivated me to keep going.
I started looking at other spindle makers for inspiration and realized there were so many possibilities between materials, designs and colors. I wanted to make something different but at the same time still it be 100% functional. Every dollar I made went right back at buying a new materials, woods and tools to try new ideas.
You might see a variety of spindles in my shop but there are always “experiments” that I am working on. I have a drawer full of prototypes that I didn’t like or I didn’t think were ready for production that get left there just in case they inspire me to try something new. Many of my ideas are a hodgepodge of other ideas that just happen to come together and work.
Thanks for checking out my shop!

5 out of 5 starsThis spins just as well as any wooden spindle. The pretty colors is what attracted me. It’s well made, is an excellent spinner. The Holly shaft is smooth yet the fibers still are able to grab onto the shaft without sliding around as he made sure there was just enough grip. The pink is a little darker in person without as much flash like my photo but still very pretty. Nice taste to incorporate a touch of purple. Love the hook, makes it very easy to hold the strand single while spinning. Has a notch wide enough for your plied yarn. Strong stitching on leather so won’t come undone. Edges of whorl smooth and well pressed and glued together on top of the stitching, will last forever. Center raised part of whorl is hollow with very firm support under it. Edges are a little flexible if pressed down on but to keep shape. Very Pleased

Hi, I dabble in several hobbies... might be the ADHD. Few of my hobbies: Woodworking, building machines (CNC, Laser cutter, jigs), ceramic, Epoxy, leatherworking, gardening... always looking for a spindle idea someone hasn't made yet.
