Welcome
Hi, I’m Rik Ashdown—the artist behind AllWeatherArtist and the “Faces in the Crowd” series.
This collection began over 20 years ago, in 2006, following the tragic death of a young boy, Jessie James, in gang-related violence in Manchester. What started as a tribute evolved through my work with the Youth Charter into a growing body of over 200 images—built around a simple idea: capturing extraordinary individuals within the everyday crowd.
Since then, the work has been shared in powerful ways. In 2007, a portrait of Muhammad Ali was presented to the boxing legend himself by the Ali Center. In 2008, a series featuring Liverpool heroes appeared at the opening of the Liverpool City of Culture festival. The collection has also supported Black History Month education programmes for over a decade, and pieces have been presented to Olympians including Lord Sebastian Coe, John Carlos, and Dame Mary Glen Haig. I’ve also created work celebrating Nelson Mandela’s 93rd birthday and his contributions to sport in Africa through the Youth Charter.
“Faces in the Crowd” is about recognition—highlighting individuals whose stories deserve to be seen, remembered, and shared. Each portrait blends individuality with collectivity, showing how one voice can stand out while still being part of something bigger.
My work is inspired by history, culture, and social impact. Whether it becomes a statement piece in your home or a meaningful gift, I hope it sparks conversation and connection.
