Inspired by Tradition
Located in the heart of Athens, Anastasios religious items shop has been in business for the past 35 years. Incense, icons, crosses and almost anything related to the Greek Orthodox religion can be found in this tiny shop, along with the pleasure of hearing Anastasios’ stories from his numerous visits to the Holy Land. While sitting on his old wooden chair in front of the shop he invites people to enter and look around.
As he is nearing his pension days, Anastasios has now turned over ownership of the shop to Christos, a long-time friend and shop owner in the area. Christos has vouched to continue the long tradition of quality and variety Anastasios has maintained all these years.
In our Etsy shop AnastasiosIcons, following tradition, every icon carried is painted on old hand carved asymmetrical wood, with the leather latch on the back. Along with the more popular themes of Jesus, or the Virgin Mary, other icons depicting more rare subjects are shown. A short description of the life and deeds of each saint is included in every post along with the dates the Church commemorates them.
